Awaiting him is 19-year-old Chinese sensation Si Jiahui, who earlier blitzed four-time ranking champion Ryan Day 6-0.
Trump started strongly, firing breaks of 62 and 100 to take a 2-0 lead. Maguire responded with consecutive 111 and 82 breaks to level the match, turning it into a tense battle. The seventh frame saw a bizarre moment: Trump was distracted by the crowd while taking a shot, and Maguire’s cue ball went off line, reportedly due to the slate on the table. Trump composed himself to take the crucial frame, then seized another opportunity in the eighth to extend his lead and eventually sealed victory in the tenth frame. After the match, he joked: “The table was good, the pockets were tight, it finally felt like a proper table.”
Maguire saved a match point but made too many errors overall. Trump advanced, though his form still leaves room for improvement. Si Jiahui, meanwhile, impressed with three 50+ breaks in a dominant 6-0 win over Day, setting up a highly anticipated clash in the next round.
With a total prize fund of £1.205 million, the UK Championship has seen a record 12 Chinese players in the main draw, including Ding Junhui and Zhao Xintong. The combination of seasoned champions defending their titles and rising young stars has already made for an exciting start to the tournament.
