The Antrim man was on top form in the Group 3 final, but the match will be remembered for a clash between the two players in the last frame. O’Sullivan, down on a red, pulled up and asked his opponent to keep still. Allen denied any wrongdoing and a discussion ensued before referee Marcel Eckardt asked O’Sullivan to play on.
O’Sullivan, who trailed 5-3 at the time, wasn’t able to make it a frame-winning visit, and Allen, who had pulled ahead from 2-2 at the mid-session, made a clearance of 66 to advance to the semi-finals, where he’ll meet Judd Trump on Saturday evening.
Allen came through a deciding frame against Scott Donaldson in his group semi-final. Neither play was at their best but the World No.8 pulled it together in the final frame to make a 125 to set up the Group Final against O’Sullivan.
